Painted turtle

Chrysemis picta

Description:

Shy turtle with yellow markings that wouldn't come out of its shell (until we walked far away). Its shell was adorned with aquatic plants. It was making its way back into the pond. Pretty fast for a turtle.

Habitat:

Seen on a sidewalk next to a marsh, where the elevation was maybe 5300'.

"Pretty fast for a turtle." :-) I like that. Yes, I've seen some "fast movers" too. It always surprises me. Thanks Mauna.
