I found the hardiness zone for this flower is 4-9 which would include Alabama. Very pretty flower. Similar to butterfly weed. :)

This reminds me of a pentas flower. Strong resemblance to it. Though don't believe that's what it is. Can't wait for somebody to ID it :)
