White-footed mouse

Description:

Two tiny mice, brown with pale feet. They were all fluffed up, and one of them stayed up in the rocks, basking in the sun. It was a cool day, about 45 degrees, and was quite windy. The basking mouse let us come amazingly close to him.

Habitat:

Semi-coniferous, semi-deciduous forest of Mount Mitchell, NC.

Notes:

On the rocks above the grave of Elisha Mitchell, we found these mice creeping in and out of the pebbles. Based in their behavior and habitat, I'm pretty sure they are white-footed mice.
