Spotless Lady Beetle

Cycloneda sanguinea

Description:

Rounded, tomato red body with no visible spots. Prontium is mostly black. About the size of my pinky nail, and I buy gloves in the kids' department.

Notes:

I was kneeling quietly in front of the borage patch in my little garden, waiting for a bee to flit over to the flowers in front of me so I could snap a picture. Suddenly, from the corner of my right eye, I see two little red shapes zoom in, which turn into a whole lady bug in front of me. So cool. I was able to snap a few moody photos of my little lady bug before it vanished. I thought it might be an Asian Ladybug/Harmonia axyridis but the prontium doesn't seem to match those in The Lost Ladybug Project's field guide.
