Great Blue Heron

Ardea herodias

Description:

A large wading bird in the heron family Ardeidae, common near the shores of open water and in wetlands over most of North and Central America as well as the West Indies and the Galápagos Islands.

Habitat:

Open wetlands, near shores...

Notes:

Great Blue Herons are a common and delightful site in the San Diego area. Flying overhead homes, "stealing" backyard pond fish or just out in their natural environments, they are great to watch.
