Brown Goshawk

Accipiter fasciatus

Description:

A medium-sized bird of prey in the family Accipitridae found in Australia and surrounding islands.

Habitat:

The Brown Goshawk is widespread through Australia, Tasmania, Wallacea, New Guinea, New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji. It is found in forests and woodlands.

Notes:

This goshawk was sitting on one of our cars on a frosty morning. Unfortunately I could only get this shot through the window and a bit of shrubbery. It was having a stand-off with the brown falcon perched on top of the tree nearest the car. The falcon lives up the hill from me and the goshawk lives down the hill. Sometimes they have to work out their boundaries at my place.
