Great Blue Heron

Ardea herodias

Description:

Large Blue-grey heron, yellow bill and black feather parting his head. You ask, what is he doing? He is forecasting the weather. It is going to be a hot day! that is why his wings are held out and his beak is open.

Habitat:

Audubon Bird preserve behind the Venice Courthouse in South Venice.

Notes:

Other birds there were also exhibiting feeling warm, likely more the humidity than the temperature. Some of the younger birds were flying to the pine trees for a little more shade.

I have virtually the same photo from a couple of months ago.
A friend suggested that it was an instance of avian yoga.
