it is quite hard to differ adult florida and spiny softshell. we have to check on the face pattern. when they were young, the carapace patterns are definitely different. bit i thing they are apalone ferox, not spinifera. spinifera has more round and thinner carapace. please correct me if i'm wrong...
They are definitely Softshell Turtles. If you look at a range map you can possibly distinguish between Flordia Softshell and Spiny Softshell, but I'm not sure you can from this photo alone.

it was in florida so im pretty sure it was the florida one!
defiantly softshell turtles. We catch the all the time when fishing kansas.

NO WAY... They look to me like Spiny Soft Shell Turtles!! I have always wanted to see them in the wild!
