Wood Turtle

Clemmys insculpta

Description:

Wood Turtle

Habitat:

lake and lakeshore

Notes:

came out of lake Minnetonka to lay eggs. I had previously labeled it wood turtle, but it snapped at me so viciously that thought it must be a snapping turtle. Oh well.

Hi Ron, I edited the Common name and switched this critter to a reptile for you. In the future you can do this by clicking the edit spotting tab.

Great shots of a really cool animal by the way, and welcome to Project Noah.

Thanks for all your input.

I agree! I just looked it up and came to the same conclusion.

Upon closer inspection, that is not a box turtle, but a Wood Turtle (Clemmys insculpta). Cool spotting. I've never seen one before, so I immediately thought box turtle.

I agree, it is not a snapper, however it does not look like a box turtle either. Possibly a cooter species.

That is definitely not a snapping turtle. Looks like a box turtle.
