Western Pond Turtle

Actinemys(or Emys) marmorata

Description:

This turtle looked mature, but definitely not too aged. It's shell was larger than a grapefruit.

Habitat:

Flowing creek in canyon between two mountains.

Notes:

While walking along the Santa Margarita river, I stumbled across this guy basking on an island of dead cattails.
