Red-waisted Whiteface

Description:

This is a small dragonfly with a length of 3.5 cm (1 5/16 inches). Dragonfly names are often descriptive and indeed this dragonfly has a white face and a red waist. The rest of the insect is dark with a pruinose section on top of the abdomen adjacent to the thorax.

Habitat:

Marshy streams and ponds. Has a wide range covering most of the northern half of North America.
