Mangora acalypha

Description:

Small, 3-4 mm. Yellow with white and black pattern. Orb weavers (Family Araneidae) comprise a huge family of spiders. The males are generally much smaller than the females and commonly lack the showy coloring of their fairer sex. They often spin their own smaller orb web near an outlying portion of the female's.

Habitat:

Grasslands. The spider occurs on heathland and in open woodland. It can usually be found in the centre of its small but densely woven orb web, which is constructed on low vegetation such as heather and gorse.
