Lupinus polyphyllus
The garden lupin is part of the Lupinus genus which consists of about 280 species. It is characterised by a tall trunk, on which flowers grow in a wirl like fashion at the top. The flowers are a typical 'peaflower' shape with an upper banner and two lateral wings.
The Garden Lupin, native to the US, was introduced to Europe via UK in the 1870s. Since then it has spread across the European continent including Norway. Here it is a popular garden plant, but has also become a nuisance species, rapidly spreading and taking over the habitat of local wildflowers.
