A New Pupa: When I went to sleep last night, both Giant Woollybear Caterpillars, were sleeping at one end of this new rearing chamber. I woke up at 3:30 a.m. in the morning, to check on these two caterpillars. I took the top cover off of this new rearing chamber, and what I saw shocked me! I couldn't believe what I saw! This new, one inch, Giant Woollybear Caterpillar, had changed ( over night ), into a new, black pupa. A new, Giant Leopard Moth Pupa, was resting on one end, of this new rearing chamber, right in front of, the two inch, Giant Woollybear Caterpillar, which was sleeping. The color of this new pupa, is black. On one end of this new pupa, was a clump of black setae. It was hard to take photos of this new pupa, so I had to shine a flashlight on it. Photos No. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, shows this new, black pupa, of the Giant Leopard Moth. It will take from one to three weeks, for this black pupa, to change into a beautiful Moth.
I am rearing, two, Giant Woollybear Caterpillars, inside a new rearing chamber.
One, Giant Woollybear Caterpillar, is one inch long, and the other, Giant Woollybear Caterpillar, is two inches long. Last night, the new, one inch, Giant Woollybear Caterpillar, changed into a black pupa. If all goes well, this new black pupa, will change into a beautiful moth. This process, takes from one to three weeks.
