Diogmites sp.
Fuzzy, 6-legged flying insect. 2-2.5 inches long. Head has 2 large eyes. Mouth reminds me of a moth's mouth with labial palps. Long, fuzzy abdomen with yellow and black stripes, ending in a solid black point. Long, thin wings. Legs are long and jointed, with black "feet" and "toes." Spotted in North Carolina. Identification would be appreciated! Edit: Thank you James and Machi!
This is a robber fly, a member of the family Asilidae. I hope that helps a little!
