Description:

An arctic-alpine flowering plant in the family Rosaceae, spotted here in the Swiss Alps at 2200 m above sea level. Delicate white flower. The scientific name refers to the eight petals of the flower, an unusual number in the Rosaceae family.

Habitat:

Limestone outcrops.

Notes:

Grows on dry spots where snow melts early.

Yes, I was suprised to find this plant in Iceland, because I thought it prefers habitats on limestone substrate. And yeah Iceland is a facinating place and really worth visiting!

Thanks Meik! Similarities with Iceland flora are not entirely unexpected... although I would expect volcanic soil would create opportunities for different species. I would love to go there one day!
