Tillandsia argentea
Thanks again, Dan, for identifying this. I agree about this being an argentea. It seems they're popular apartment plants. It's obviously tropical, but I bought it at the Jersey Shore a year ago. It's growing slowly while hanging from a string in the kitchen window. We fully submerge it in water once a week for an hour.
According to this page (http://www.biodiversityexplorer.org/plan...) it's native to Mexico and Cuba.

Thanks for the tip! The daily misting was actually the routine for a while and then we got really lazy about it. However, they hang directly above the kitchen sink, and I think they've definitely benefited from the steamy dish water. I'm going to get back into the misting routine and give the fertilized water a try for sure.
No problem. As for you watering technique, I would say you don't need to submerge it for an hour. Try submerging it for just a few minutes every other day or mist it daily and see if it grows any better.
This is a Tillandsia, I think T. argentea. I've attached 3 of them to a large Jade many years ago. They have since rooted to the Jade. I mist them nearly everyday and they are thriving. 2 of mine have flowered. I occasionally mist them with fertilized water.
