"Milkweed oil from the seeds can be easily converted into cinnamic acid which is a very potent sunscreen when used at a 1-5% concentration" Wow I didn't know that!

We have a big patch on our lawn both to cut down on what we have to mow and to help Monarchs along in whatever way we can.

Common milkweed is an amazing plant - take a few minutes to watch the bees as they come and go. The plant has paired "saddlebags" of pollen that are designed to be carried off whole and have a time realease mechanism to ensure the plant pollinates an unrelated milkweed rather than a nearby clone...
