In the dutch dunes. It looks like some kind of seed stalk. It was about 1,75 meters (6 feet) tall.

@ScottRasmussen Well, I must say, this was the first time I found them 'wild', so I cannot tell wether this is the normal way they flower over here.
The weather this year seems a bit off, from cold to really warm, and back to cold,.... dry for weeks, and then days and days of rain. Could be the flowers respond to that with unusual behavior...?

I saw those photos. They're really excellent. That mullein is flowering more profusely that it does over here, where the flower stalks usually only have a few open flowers from day to day.

Looks like a dried Mullein stalk. Pretty photo.
