Brown Sailor Spider

Neoscona nautica

Description:

The spider species Neoscona nautica, commonly known as Brown Sailor Spider, belongs to the genus Neoscona, in the family Araneidae. Cephalothorax longer than wide, blackish; cephalic region darker; thoracic region near posterior end brownish and excavated. Chelicerae blackish, outer margin with four teeth and inner margin with three teeth, fang smaller. Endite (Maxillae) much longer compared to labium, yellowish, inner margin dark. Labium much shorter, yellowish, distal margin dark Sternum blackish with a brownish median longitudinal marking, posterior half only slightly narrowed. Legs blackish, anterior legs more blackish, while posterior two legs with greyish bands at the proximal end of tibia and metatarsus. Abdomen A pair of whitish or greyish spots on the anterior half present.
