Deer Tick

Ixodes scapularis

Description:

kfryn218 was calling these guys nymph ticks and we spent a lot of time trying to get these buggers off of us, so small they looked like crawling specks of dirt. Looking into it a bit on the internet, these might even be the larval stage because I can only see six legs, apparently the nymphs have eight.

Habitat:

Huntsville State Park, crawling all over us!!!

Notes:

kfryn218 and I went on our first geocacheing adventure and found some cool spottings along the trail. This one was not so cool. Never fun to find out you are covered in teeny tiny ticks :-/

thankfully we were able to catch most of the little buggers... so no bites here...

I was also eaten alive by tiny ticks in Brazil and Guyana. I never even caught them feeding most of the time. Just a really itchy and red bite after. Did you get bit a lot? Sounds like there was a lot of them.
