Goldenrod spider

Misumena vatia

Description:

These spiders change color by secreting a liquid yellow pigment into the outer cell layer of the body. The color change from white to yellow takes between 10 and 25 days, the reverse about six days.

Habitat:

urban garden

Notes:

I spotted this goldenrod spider on my globe thistle plant. The plant attracts a lot of insects to its flowers and this spider ambushes them. I've added the flower of globe thistle as the last photo.
