Golden Silk Orb-Weaver

Nephila clavipes

Description:

There were at least three of these in the immediate vicinity located on top of a small shed. I climbed up to get a better look and this one was the largest and had the biggest web. Their webs are so strong and large that fisherman on the coast of the IndioPacific ocean use them to catch fish by rolling them into a ball where they unfold when they hit the water.

Habitat:

Laguna Lodge, Tortuguero National Park.
