Microcentrum retinerve
Lesser Angle-wing Katydid insect. More closely related to crickets than grasshoppers and are noted for their loud mating calls. Have large hind legs and extremely long threadlike antennae. The United States is home to over 100 species. They live on trees, bushes, or grasses, often matching the appearance of their surroundings. Many species resemble leaves like the one in this spotting. The name "katydid" comes from the male's repetitive call, which has been heard as "katydid, katy-didnt." This lesser angle-wing katydid is smaller than the Greater Angle-wing katydid. Its range is from Long Island and New Jersey south to northern Florida and west to Missouri and extreme east Texas and Oklahoma.
This lesser angle-wing katydid was attracted to the front light and flew onto the side of the house as I was taking out the dogs last night.
