Ardea alba
Wading bird, sort of like a heron. I couldn't get any closer.
That's what I thought, it's the only bird of its size that's complete white with a black beak.
Okay, my Collins bird guide says the Great Egret is 'Egretta alba', and in my wildlife guide too..... Strange!
So, we're going with Great Egret, but scientific name is still under debate!
Great Egret would be my guess. The bill turns almost black in breeding season.
What confuses me right now is the Latin name.
In my Collins bird guide it's 'Casmerodius albus' and on wiki and birdforum (http://www.birdforum.net/opus/Great_Egre...) it's 'Ardea alba'.
Maybe it got changed in the last year. Weird... :)
