The only problem with spotting while working is that I get distracted far too easily! :D Oh, we are - all the tourists look at us like we're mad, but it's so nice when the weather cools down.

Gardens are a great place for spotting insects for sure. I guess, it's difficult without rain for so long. You must out in the streets during the first rain!

It is a bonus working for myself - even when the time comes to employ someone, I'm still the boss, so I can still spot at work. :) It's where I do most of my spotting, actually - gardens are definitely fascinating places if you have the patience to look. So long without rain is difficult - we all go a little nuts when we get the first decent downpour!

3 months without rain? Wow, now that's a lot of watering to do! At least you can spot at work too. It's a bit more difficult to me. I can't bring my camera around at work but if possible I try to bring the subject home if it's an insect and I can catch it. Waterproof camera would be nice. You can buy those cases for regular cameras too.

I'm in total agreement with the seasons - we've had 3 or 4 days of rain this summer (usually we can go 3 months easily without any rain or cloud at all) and plenty of cloudy days, and last winter we had temperatures of high 20s! It's crazy. No complaints from me, either - I'm outside in all weathers, I love it. Now I just need a waterproof camera!

For me, traveling in the tropics, it's usually the wet or dry season that I have to deal with. I don't have much choice and usually just go where I want no matter what the season. Besides the seasons are becoming less defined and it could rain or be dry at any time, but yes, make do with what you have. No complaints from me!

That's it, and the wildlife that is out in summer (I'm thinking butterflies and birds) usually isn't around in the winter. But I guess we have to make do with what we have, right? :)

I understand completely. I would love to take the summer off too! So many places I want to visit and winter isn't always the best season for some of them.

No, not a slow season at all! All my clients want their gardens tending to weekly, so the work is good for me in one way and bad in another! But still, one day I'll get there. :) I'd love seasonal work, it would be fantastic! I'd take the summer off, if I had the chance!

That's too bad about not being able to get away at all. So there's not really much of a slow season there then. Better to be seasonal! Hahahahaha! Yes, you're right, very lucky and I appreciate what the job I have. I'm not even remotely interested in full time. Hopefully you get to the park sometime.

Only me - I know! Would love a holiday right about now, but not possible at all. Erm, it gets colder (for us) and it does tend to rain quite a bit. But we only have frost a couple of mornings a year, and it never snows. Ever. Seasonal? You're lucky! Gives you plenty of time to pursue your hobbies. :)

Only you?! That's a lot of work. We have the same job except I'm seasonal. I hear you about trying to get time off. Is there much of a winter where you are?

Yeah, landscaper and general garden maintenance, so it's an all year round full time job, unfortunately. And at the moment, there's only me! So weekends are all I have. But if I get the chance to take a week or so off, I will definitely be up there checking it out. The write up was fascinating.

You're a landscaper, right? Are you full time year round then?

I haven't, Dan. I read that article as well, it's definitely on my list of places to visit. Unfortunately, it's the opposite end of the country to me and it's difficult to find the time off work to go.

Cool, wild Thyme. Dangermouse, have you been to Peneda-Geres National Park? I was reading about it in NG.
