Rattlesnake (Western Diamondback)

Crotalus atrox

Description:

Heavy body with a triangular head much thicker than the neck. Gray or brown on the upper side, 4 to 6 sided dark edged diamonds on the back separated by white lines. Poisonous and the bite can be fatal. It coils, lifts its head back and rattles to warn intruders.

Habitat:

Desert plains, brush, and rocky foothills of central and southern Arizona and central and southern New Mexico.
