Spotted Hyena

Crocuta crocuta

Description:

We were lucky enough to spot a hyena den with many very young cubs. They were extremely curious & came right up to the landrover, even climbing onto the door thresholds & biting the tires! The adults in the photos are probably 'baby-sitters', young females left to guard the den & the cubs while the rest of the clan hunts. Hyenas are very social animals & the cubs will feed from any lactating female, not just their mother.
