Siamang

Symphalangus syndactylus

Description:

The Siamang is the largest of the gibbons & the lesser apes. It has thick black fur except on the face. Its arms are particularly long (up to 2.5x body length) but slender. It has opposable thumbs & its big toe is noticeably separated from the rest of the foot. It uses a throat sac to amplify vocalizations. Spotted in captivity.

Habitat:

Tropical hill forest of Malaysia and Sumatra is preferred. They will also live in lowland and swamp (freshwater) forests.
