dryocopus pileatus
Large male Pileated Woodpecker Northeast of Cincinnati
Wooded areas with some dead wood
I saw a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers on this day, but could not get a decent picture of the other. It may have been a female.

What a great spotting!
Very nice series!
Perhaps. It was a VERY big bird, and it hung out in the area most of the day, jumping from tree to tree to search for food.
Nice. It seems a little mangy?
