Groundhog

Marmota monax)

Description:

Groundhogs are about one and a half to two feet long (45-60 cm) including the tail, which is about one-fourth of my body length. Some say that the males are bigger than the females, but that is not always the case. Their bodies are long while their legs are short.

Habitat:

Groundhogs are found throughout North America and particularly in the east. They build their homes underground and often beneath sheds, decks, patios and other structures which offer protection.

Notes:

These groundhogs are found around the bluffs near the Tennessee River.
