Long Jawed Orb Weaver

Description:

Large Male Long Jawed Orb weaver. He was found near a web with a female on it. You can tell this one is male due to his enlarged Tarsus. (The balls on the ends of his pedipalps)

Habitat:

On a wooden sign near a wooded nature trail.

Notes:

Was very aggressive. Probably due to his sexual maturity/ me trying to get close to take pictures. He was sitting on the bottom of the sign in shade with his arms stretched out and body elongated as is typical of these spiders. However, he made himself rather large after I prodded him out so I could nab a good photo.
