Sorry, I was so worried that I might get it wrong, I forgot to mention that it is an egg sac of Lymantria dispar.

Hi wildcg,
I just wanted to let you know that I really don't know what is in your spotting, but by a strange coincidence, I was trying to identify a moth and saw a photo in inaturalist.org which looks very like your picture. I don't know what that one is either, but I will send you an ID Suggestion with the reference so that you can look at it. Who knows, we might get lucky. But if it turns out to be wrong, please let me know and I will withdraw my erroneous suggestion with apologies.
