Lowland gorilla

Gorilla gorilla gorilla

Description:

Gorillas live in family groupings of one dominant male, five to seven adult females, children and adolescents, and possibly a few non-dominant males. Gorillas reproduce slowly because females do not begin reproducing until the age of nine or ten and usually only produce one baby approximately every five years.

Habitat:

Atlanta zoo.

Notes:

The infant was trying his best to get away (you can see in photo 3 it's mom had hold of his ankle to prevent him from escaping). We witnessed a temper tantrum worthy of any 2 year old human followed by what appeared to be a serious 'talking to' from Mom! It was fascinating to watch the tender relationship between this huge animal & her baby.
