Bee fly

Anthrax georgicus

Description:

approx. 3/4 inch long

Habitat:

spotted in grassy field

Notes:

Right now I'm thinking it's a sinuous bee fly (check the bugguide.net link), but none of the examples seems to have that distinctive white tip on the abdomen. http://www.biology.ualberta.ca/bsc/ejour...

You're welcome! I'm so glad I could help :) Unfortunately don't know the gender.

Cindy, you pegged this one perfectly. Much appreciated. Check out the link in the notes; want to venture a guess as to which is which, male and female?

There is a white tip on the Anthrax georgicus but they don't have easily visible antenna. Your first image looks like it may have some. Great info here: http://bugguide.net/node/view/78123
