Chauliognathus pensylvanicus
The Pennsylvania Leatherwing Beetle is very useful to the environment. It is orange with black oval spots on its wings, and a orange/black stripped body. People consider it to be both a Carnivore and Omnivore since it eats smaller insects, insect eggs, nectar, and even small slugs & snails. It is also a fantastic pollinator and an effective source of pest-control.
Common throughout the east along road sides lined with flowers and in fields. They are most commonly seen in late summer and fall.
