tiny ladybug nymphs

family Coccinellidae

Description:

These nymphs, grouped on a thistle plant, were so tiny that it never crossed my mind that they might be ladybugs... but it seems they are! Thanks to Darwinist, auntnance123, and misako.hill for pointing me in the right direction.

I just added a third photo that shows a couple of them from the side. It also shows that they're on a thistle plant, FWIW. :)

I vote ladybug too. I've never seen that many either. Very cool spotting!

The shape is similar... but I've never seen ladybug nymphs in large groups. And they are really tiny. Maybe they just hatched? They also seem more hairy/spiny than the ladybug nymphs I've seen. I'll poke around and see if I have any photos that show them from a different angle. Thanks for the ideas!
