Asota egens confinis
Erebidae; Aganainae; Asota egens confinis Rothschild, 1897. According to Wikipedia, A. e. confinis is the subspecies present in the Philippines (in Luzon, Mindanao and Sibuyan island). I have been waiting for years to see one of these moths and add its picture to my collection. It was only today that I noticed the following in Wiki: "The larvae have been recorded on Ficus species." I was delighted to read that little snippet because we have a few Ficus spp. in our bag yard. So there mught be a chance of spotting some more of these moths.
This little Snouted Tiger was spotted at 5:00 a.m. this morning sitting on a metal partition in my dog kennels. I could not stop feeding my dogs as they would have created an uproar and wakened the whole barrio. So I completed my morning routine as quickly as possible. Then when all the dogs were happily chowing down, I raced back indoors to get my camera. My luck held and the moth was still in the same position. The dog kennels are at the back of our house and open into the backyard. So the backyard and especially the Ficus spp. should be considered the habitat.
