Cicadidae or Magicicada
Discarded Cicada skins, and Cicada after molting
This is from North America, the nymph lives underground when ready to molt it anchors itself and emerges as a winged imago, it has a 13 to 17 year life cycle. They are grouped into broods.
I watched this Cicada molting in Michigan, US on August 4th 2011. There were many discarded skins and much noise of their mating call.
