Description:

Discarded Cicada skins, and Cicada after molting

Habitat:

This is from North America, the nymph lives underground when ready to molt it anchors itself and emerges as a winged imago, it has a 13 to 17 year life cycle. They are grouped into broods.

Notes:

I watched this Cicada molting in Michigan, US on August 4th 2011. There were many discarded skins and much noise of their mating call.
