Scaphinotus angusticollis
Large black, long-legged beetle that roams the forest floor; a predator. Not particularly nocturnal.
Mixed conifer forest; temperate coastal rainforest, very moist.
Apparently they eat slugs, but my mother always called them carrion beetles. There seem to be a number of Carabidae beetles, and perhaps this is Blethisa oregonensa, but I'm not at all sure. It's a very familiar beetle in Oregon forests.

Thanks for the lead; I think it's most likely S. angusticollis given what I caught it eating, as well as its morphology.
boat backed carabid?
