Black Squirrel

Description:

Solid Black to a washed out Black. Other then that they are found where the Western Grey Squirrel live so look like Grey squirrels on body. Longer ears. Some have bushy tails some have thinner tails. Read somewhere I where they are shy. But have gotten reports that at times the Blacks can be more aggresive when near food. The Blacke ones I have encountered tend to avoid people where the Greys can stand their ground. Black ones are becoming more numerous then the Greys but harder to spot because they hide in the shadows. Last image is one I spotted in Vancouver Canada on 6/16/2009

Habitat:

Range from UK, Canada, many areas of US. I saw one in BC that had a white smudge on it's sides. Usually found near Redwood trees where they make their homes. Found mostly in parks where they try to get food from people.
