Could be. It doesn't look like any of the Sphex pensylvanicus have the white patches on the antennae though. I'll keep that name in mind, but may look just a bit more. Thanks!

Funny! I think I found the ID because of your photo. The Great Black Wasp, and named after our state of PA. LOL

Carol - yep, I just looked at yours and it is definitely a wasp too. Ours have similar antennal coloration, so they may be similar. I'll let you know if/when I figure out what species this one is.

I just posted 4 photos of my unknown insect. This is it? WOW! I thought it might be an assassin bug, but it is a wasp.
