Growing on granite
irrigated semi-desert area in the sacred valley of peru, andes mountains
It wasn't easy to pay attention at all! I was traveling with three girls...a two year old, a six year old and my lovely wife! I hardly had time to enjoy the vacation!
..maybe you did not pay attention or they no longer do this..?.. but in these little towns near The Inca Valley they used to have these balloons attached to a small pole once in a while in the streets and when I asked they told me: "Oh, is just a bakery shop that is nearby" ..anyway...an anecdote I remembered from that place :-)
thanks ulvalactuca! I don't remember the baloons Marta. I wish I would have known to look. are you sure Lars...it didn't really have leaves?
Do they still announce the bakery shops with a colorful little balloon in the middle of the street..?
Well it looks more like limestone to me which was a favored rock of the Incas and easier to carve than granite. However granite was also used and if you say it is than I believe you.
Ah no is Ollantaytambo. I also passed by there..in 1996..but is an unforgettable place :-)
It is without a doubt granit. These mountains are comprised of mostly granite. These giant stones were used for construction by the Inca. The granite was the easiest stone to carve to perfection for morterless construction.
It's a lichen. And I don't believe that is granite. It is not obviously igneous to me, but I could certainly be incorrect.
