Oncorhynchus mykiss
Rainbow Trout have a pinkish band running length of their body, and a silver underside that fades to pearl white. There are small black spots on their back, fins, and tail. Trout are members of the salmon family and can grow very large ( anywhere between 10- 36 in). The average length is 16 inches. The largest one caught was 42 inches and weighed in about 48 pounds.
We found this particular trout in the Truckee River in Nevada. It lives in fresh running water. The water was very cold and very clear.
