A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Gavia immer
Large, black and white bird. Checkerboard back with white necklace, black head, deep red eye, and long pointed bill.
Spotted at Tamarac on Pine Lake. This bird prefers clear lakes because it hunts for fish by eyesight. Legs are set so far back that it has a hard time walking on land but it's a great swimmer.
The state bird of Minnesota.
