Venus Flytrap (Dionaea muscipula)
The Venus Flytrap resides in environments with damp sandy and peaty soil, that are low in nitrogen and phophorus. Due to the poor nutrional value of the soil, the Venus Flytrap relies on its ability to trap insects, its prey provides it with the nitogren the soil cannot.
I stumbled across these plants while hiking a trail in Carolina Beach State Park, there were a dozen or so patches of these in a small clearing right off the trail.
