A tortoise beetle is a leaf (eating) beetle and a ladybird beetle eats small insects such as aphids. They both have a similar hemispherical shape and are easily mistaken.

it should be a golden tortoise beetle ( http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/720... ), i just wanted to link him also as refereces, these beetles variate strong in appearance.
