River Birch

Betula nigra

Description:

I couldn't resist this bark shot...The most eye catching feature of this species is the bark, which can range from a pinkish hue to brown through whites and grays. The bark easily peels off in layers.

Habitat:

Moist river bottoms, mostly. A very popular suburban landscaping plant.

Notes:

This shot is only of the bark...it is so cool that I couldn't resist. The multiple layers and shadows caught my attention.
