Phasmatodea
The stick insect, also called walking stick, is a long, thin, slow moving insect that looks like a twig or stick. There are approximately 3,000 different species. They range in size from 1/2 inch to 13 inches long. Stick insects are highly camouflaged, normally brown or green, although some species are brilliantly colored.
Stick insects are found predominately in the tropics and subtropics, although some species live in temperate regions. They thrive in forest and grasslands, where they feed on leaves.
Stick insects are mainly nocturnal creatures. They spend most of their day motionless, hidden under plants.
