Stick insect

Description:

The stick insect, also called walking stick, is a long, thin, slow moving insect that looks like a twig or stick. There are approximately 3,000 different species. They range in size from 1/2 inch to 13 inches long. Stick insects are highly camouflaged, normally brown or green, although some species are brilliantly colored.

Habitat:

Stick insects are found predominately in the tropics and subtropics, although some species live in temperate regions. They thrive in forest and grasslands, where they feed on leaves.

Notes:

Stick insects are mainly nocturnal creatures. They spend most of their day motionless, hidden under plants.
