termites

order Blattodea

Description:

We found these termites under a large piece of petrified wood near Blanco, NM. I always thought the the ones with small white heads were nymphs, and the ones with large orange heads were adults. But now I think the white ones are workers and the orange ones are soldiers. The extremely tiny white one in the second photo appears to be newly hatched.

Thanks Cindy. :) I always think these little guys are interesting to watch, and slightly creepy looking.
